Nurseries in Waltham Forest

Our data lists 139 early-years settings in Waltham Forest with 5,403 places in total. By type: day nurseries 80, pre-schools 12, nursery schools 3, school nursery classes 41 and independent schools with early years provision 3. Childminders are counted separately.

Settings with a new Ofsted report card: 14; strong or exceptional in at least 4 of 6 areas: 1. Under the older grades, 5 nurseries and pre-schools are Outstanding and 62 are Good. We never convert one system into the other, so the two groups are listed separately.

If you are a working parent, apply on GOV.UK for an 11-digit code and give it to your chosen provider; you re-confirm it every 3 months. For extra support for two-year-olds, you apply through the council, which has a free early education page and a childcare team you can contact. For three- and four-year-olds there is no council application: speak to the provider you choose.

Ofsted's register shows 140 childminders in the borough. We publish only counts and inspection results for childminders, not individual names or addresses. To check a particular childminder, ask for their Ofsted registration number and search for it on the Ofsted reports site.

Settings with no inspection result in our data: 11. This usually means a recent registration rather than a problem, but you should ask the setting when it expects its first inspection and read its latest report once it is published.

Chingford, Leyton, Leytonstone and Walthamstow each have a page listing their settings, nearby stations and inspection results. Walthamstow has 61 settings in our data.
